Check Links

You use this NaviPress function to make your web information as accurate as possible. Check Links gives you the ability to select a NaviPress page and check most of the hyperlinks it contains. NaviPress finds links that are not working, for whatever reason. You can then edit your document and links as needed. Without Check Links, you would have to click on each link in the document to verify it.

Find Bad Links

Check the links in any Web page:

  1. Open any Web page, either in your local directory or on a web server.
  2. Choose menu Tools->Check Links to start the dialog box below.
  3. Watch the dialog box.

Check Link dialog

NaviPress scans all links in the page and verifies that they exist. A status message at the bottom of the dialog box keeps you apprised on NaviPress' activity. If it finds a bad link, the status message changes to indicate the problem. If no bad links are found you get "no bad links found" message.

When it finds a  bad or non-existent link, it moves the selection to that link and shows the url of the link in a fashion similar to the standard link dialog. You have the option of typing in a new link (or browsing for it) and pressing Change, or of proceeding on to the next link leaving the current link as it was. You may also clear out both the URL field (the field at the top) and the anchor field and press Change to remove the link.

You may also interrupt the search for a link by pressing the interrupt button, which will stop the dialog on the link you are currently searching for (sometimes NaviPress will take a very long time to find out whether a link exists, and it may not be worth waiting for).  At that point you may change the link or proceed to the next just as you could if it had stopped on the link.

If you get a "Could not find 'http://....' message, you can edit the URL.
